The History Meeting House (HMH) is a unique place in Warsaw — a place of contact with testimonies of the 20th century history of Poland and Central and Eastern Europe. The idea to set up the Meeting House was developed by the KARTA Centre — an independent non-governmental institution, for many years now documenting the history of the past century. The Centre's source materials prompted Warsaw's authorities to establish the HMH as municipal cultural institution, which commenced its activities on 1st March 2006.

The Meeting House offers a permanent multimedia exhibition The Faces of Totalitarianism which serves as a basis for intensive educational work with young people. Right now it's unavailable, but it will be presented again after the renovation of the House, at the beginning of 2008.

The HMH's offer also includes temporary exhibitions, film show series, publishing promotions, meetings with eyewitnesses of history and international historical debates. In the meeting room there is a history bookshop and a reading room. A separate area of activity for the HMH is to gather and make available photographs, archival films, and eyewitness accounts, which constitute the Media Library.
